Hello!

Restoring the Hoop is a nonprofit 501C3 organization founded in October 2003 in Pitt County , North Carolina with the sole purpose of helping the Native American communities, starting with Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota .  We currently are focusing on providing much needed blankets for the elderly during the extremely cold winter months as well as providing warm clothing, educational materials, and supporting educational programs for the youth to assist them in becoming self sufficient citizens of their communities. On the Pine Ridge Reservation alone 69% of the children live in poverty and one half of the population of 46,000 people is under the age of 18.  In the upcoming years we plan to grow substantially so that we can offer even more support and assistance to help the Native American communities through education, overcome poverty and adversity.

We are happy to announce Sedona Brings, Oglala Lakota, from Pine Ridge, SD has become RtH liaison in charge of distribution of blankets, coats, school supplies and other warm clothing on Pine Ridge Reservation.

Sedona is a retired nurse living in Red Cloud District of the village of Pine Ridge on Pine Ridge Reservation, SD. Sedona worked as a dialysis nurse in Pine Ridge until her mother’s, Celeste Brings,  health started to decline in 2005. Sedona retired from the dialysis center and devoted all her time and energies to taking care of her mother.

Celeste Brings started a home based program to provide coats and shoes for Lakota youth that remained in place until her declining health limited her ability to remain active.

“With this program (RtH) I will be able to carry on my mother’s work for the people “ Sedona Brings 2009
